This project started from a drawing and developed into a complete custom finish. This beautiful set of custom built solid alder cabinets were handcrafted by a wonderful cabinet maker; the problem was the cabinet shop couldn’t come up with the finish the customer wanted.
When I first met with this customer the sense of frustration on the new construction job site was palpable. She explained the look she was going for; I quickly focused on every word. I was provided a door sample and told “not like this, but you see the knots? I like those”. Then leaving the meeting I was told by a contractor on the jobsite, “it’s impossible, you don’t want to get tangled into this mess”.
It tingled; the kind of feeling you get when your friend calls and has tickets to the basketball game. I knew the challenge, I saw the other defeated contractors; this alder had to be tamed- these folks had been let down but now I was going to have a front row seat as they unveil their dream.
